It varies depending on the system size but an average system takes around 6-8 years to pay for itself completely. What is the life-expectancy of a PV system? Your PV panels come with a 25 year production warranty and your inverter is warranted for between 5 and 10 years.

Is it quality gear?

Is this like solar hot water heating?

No. Solar hot water systems rely on heat from the sun. PV solar panels rely on light from the sun.

Does the sun have to be shining for the system to work?

Even in light cloud your PV system will still produce electricity.

Can I store the electricity I create?

There are 3 types of system. Grid-tie, Off Grid and Mixed Grid-tie with battery back-up. With Grid-tie there is no electricity storage and it is the most common system.

What is the average cost of a domestic PV system?

$4,000 excluding GST per kilowatt but it can vary from house to house depending on installation costs.
